The Gmina Nowe [ 'nɔvɛ ] is a town-and-country municipality in the Powiat Świecki of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city ​​of the same name ( German Neuchâtel i. Westpr. , 1942-1945 Neuchâtel (Vistula) ) with about 6000 inhabitants.

geography

The community is located in the Kulmerland in the former West Prussia and borders the Vistula in the east . Another river is the Mątawa (Montau) . Bydgoszcz (Bromberg) and Gdansk are about 70 kilometers away.

history

Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the municipality had to be ceded to the Poles in 1920 to establish the Polish Corridor . Occupied by Germany since the beginning of the Second World War , it returned to Poland before the end of the war.

From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the Bydgoszcz Voivodeship .
