The Gmina Świecie ([ ˈɕfʲɛtɕɛ ], ) is a town-and-country municipality in the powiat Świecki of the Kuyavian-Pomerania Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of the Powiat and the municipality is the city of the same name ( German Schwetz an der Weichsel ) with about 26,000 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality extends over the west bank of the Vistula . Its main town is at the confluence of the Wda (Schwarzwasser) . It borders on the city of Chełmno (Kulm) . The town of Grudziądz (Graudenz) is five kilometers northwest.
history
As part of the first partition of Poland in 1772, the municipality came to Prussia . In 1919 it became part of the re-established Poland and was German occupied from 1939 to 1945 during World War II . Before the end of the war, the area came back to Poland.
The rural community existed from 1934 to 1954 and was re-established in 1973, the town community was added in 1975 and the community received its current status. From 1975 to 1998 she was part of the province Bydgoszcz (Bromberg) .

Terespol Pomorski station is on the Chorzów – Tczew railway line . The Świecie nad Wisłą station was the beginning of the almost closed Świecie nad Wisłą – Złotów railway .
