The Goethe-Gymnasium is a grammar school in the Berlin district of Lichterfelde and comprises grades 7–12.

history

On April 8, 1872, the "Krahmersche higher girls' school" was founded by Adelheid Krahmer in the Villa Hildesheim (Bellair) on Berliner Straße (today Ostpreußendamm). Six students were to be taught. In addition there was a student who was unable to attend the “boys' school” due to poor transport connections and high school fees. Adelheid Krahmer, who was also the first headmistress, hired more teachers as the number of pupils increased. Since the spatial conditions were insufficient, the school moved to Chausseestrasse 29 at the corner of Dürerstrasse in 1874.

In 1878 the school was moved to Berliner Straße 166, this time in a building specially commissioned by Adelheid Krahmer (today Willi-Graf-Oberschule). In the following time the " Hauptkadettenanstalt " moved to the vicinity of the school , which was a great advantage for the "Krahmersche higher girls' school". Some of the male teachers at the cadet institute were now able to teach at the girls' school.

In 1881 all male students were transferred to a newly built grammar school and the school only taught girls again. In 1904 the "Krahmersche higher girls 'school" became the property of the community of Groß-Lichterfelde , because it was supposed to become a "public higher girls' school". In 1907/1908 Adelheid Krahmer retired. In 1911 the school was renamed "Lyzeum und Oberlyzeum der Gemeinde Berlin-Lichterfelde" by their successors.

In 1943 the school building on Berliner Straße was badly damaged and only reopened in June 1945. Shortly afterwards, she moved to the building on Drakestrasse that was previously used by the Lichterfelde secondary school. In 1951 the name was changed to “Goethe School” after it was now called “Lichterfelder Oberschule for Girls”. Since 1953, male pupils have been accepted again and the school has made a lot of progress: restored parts of the building, auditorium, gymnasium and science rooms were opened in 1954. In order to do justice to the rapidly growing number of students in the 1970s, numerous renovations and conversions took place during this time. The school has had a modern three-field sports hall since 2015.

In 2016 the school was renamed Goethe-Gymnasium Lichterfelde .

terrain

The school building, the gymnasium built in 2014, a school garden, table tennis tables and other sports facilities are located on the approximately 12,000 square meter property. The school's property is surrounded by residential buildings on Drakestrasse in the north, Drakestrasse in the east, Weddigenweg in the south and residential buildings on Weddigenweg and Potsdamer Strasse in the west.

school-building

The school building was built from 1909 to 1912 according to the design of the architects Julia Ammer and Richard Tietzen and was first the school building of the Lichterfelder Realgymnasium , which was merged with the neighboring Lilienthal-Gymnasium after the Second World War . The external shape of the building has hardly changed since then. The yellow, plastered building can be assigned to the style of neoclassicism . The building consists of numerous protruding and recessed parts. The main entrance is on Drakestrasse. In the years after the Second World War, the building was rebuilt several times. In the school building there is an auditorium, a gym, numerous class and specialist rooms, administration rooms and a cafeteria.

In 2010, planning began for the new construction of a three-part gymnasium, which should cover the urgent need for sports facilities in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district. A plot of land on Weddigenweg was selected as the location. One of the criteria for this was the protected tree population on the property. A sum of 4.5 million euros was set for the construction of the gym. The gym was completed and opened in 2014.

The school building is listed under the object document number 09065766 in the monument database of the State of Berlin.
