history

The name of the village was mentioned for the first time in the first third of the 12th century and indicates gold deposits in the most ancient times, when the banks and islands of the branched branches of the Danube were populated by gold panners long before the Danube was regulated. To extract the gold, felt cloths were used, in the fibers of which the gold dust got caught.

A noble family later named themselves after the village. So around 1120/1130 a "Leopoldus de Goltiegen" is called. Originally, the bishop of Passau was the landowner, from 1582 on, gold was given to Count Hardegg in Stetteldorf. The village chapel, built of wood in 1841, was rebuilt from bricks in 1855 and is dedicated to St. Consecrated to Veronica.
