Goltret is the name of the alpine pasture, probably from Goldeneriede , from gola, golz , 'bald hill' and trata, tret , a term from alpine farming meaning 'high pasture without a building' - the word comes from Slavic and Romansh .

Cimaross (also Cimaross ) means 'red mountain', is Rhaeto-Romanic, was later no longer understood by the Bavarian population and that is why today the mountain is called “Der Röte” or on maps “Rotenkogel”, because of the reddish rock in contrast to the neighboring ones White button and blue tip peaks.

Kals mountain railways

The foundation stone for winter tourism was laid in Kals in 1961 with the construction of the Glocknerblick single chair lift . From 1995 the Blauspitz ski area , then operated by the Kals am Großglockner GmbH & Co. KG mountain railways , was expanded significantly.

Matreier Goldried mountain railways

Goldried is the name of the Matrei ski area. Operation began in 1979 with the company Bergbahnen Hohe Tauern Süd GmbH , which was renamed Matreier Goldried Bergbahnen GmbH in 1994 .

In 1998 a gondola was built that leads directly into the sunny and flatter main part of the ski area, which is 2200 m high. From there you can reach two more lifts: a detachable six-person chairlift and a four-person chairlift. Furthermore, a detachable six-seater chairlift has been leading up to the Cimaross since 2007.

Großglockner Resort (Schultz Group)

Due to the low capacity utilization, the Kalser Bergbahnen were endangered in their economic existence. After the two mountain railways in Kals and Matrei were taken over by the Schultz Group , on December 8, 2008, the two ski areas were combined into one. Today they operate under the common brand Großglockner Resort . The company also runs accommodation businesses in Kals. Today the joint headquarters of the companies is Uderns in the Zillertal.

The target group are families, which is implemented with comparatively low prices for the central alpine region and designated special dedications (fun park, carver-only slopes).

The Rotenkogel – Kalser-Höhe-Grat is excluded from the Hohe Tauern National Park , which stretches all the way into the Defereggental and upper Lienz . This is in keeping with the national park concept as a balance and interweaving of general interest in nature conservation and local acceptance through an economic basis - also through the use of the image for tourism.

Infrastructure

The ski area comprises 41.6 kilometers of pistes, including around 8.5 km of easy, 22.5 km of medium and 6 km of difficult runs (90% snow-making), a snow park and 4.6 km of ski routes. The mountain railways operate 3  gondola lifts , 5  chair lifts and 5  drag lifts . It extends from 933 to 2,422 m.

The original Kals ski area is Blauspitz  (1376–2298 m  ), on the Ganotzalm / Figol on the Kalser Höhe, with the lifts Kals / Großdorf – Figolebene (Figol) , Figolebene – Karmulde – Roßbichl (Blauspitz) and Gschlöss (Carver slope exclusive) .

The Matrei ski area is Goldried  ( ), on the Kerschbaumeralm on the Klaunzerberg and the Goldried below Cimaross and Gorner, with the Goldried 1 from Matrei, Goldried 2 and Happeck , and the 6-seater chairlift Cimaross . The Cimaross cable car runs from Kals in two sections (Kals 1,2) to the Adlerlounge mountain station with the long valley run.

The Sudetendeutsche Hütte and the Kals-Matreier-Törl-Haus of the Alpine clubs are also in the vicinity of the ski area .
