Golden Sands ([ zɫatni pjasɐtsi ], Bulgarian пясъци Златни, German  Gold beach , literally actually "Golden Sands", often in Bulgaria only Zlatni called) is a beach on the Black Sea 16 km northeast of the city of Varna , Bulgaria , as well as the name of a tourist town on the beach of the same name.

Beach

The golden beach is 3.5 km long and in some places up to 100 m wide. The name is probably due to the gold shimmering, fine-grain sand, which is created from the ground up shell shells. Unlike the more southerly sun beach the name of the beach is not a designation of the tourism industry , but was common centuries ago.

In 1956 the first hotel in the resort opened. German citizens from the former GDR and West Germany began to vacation there a little later.

More than 70 large hotels , many supermarkets and restaurants are lined up on the promenades of the golden beach . The wooded slopes of the 1,300 hectare nature park of the same name, Slatni pjasazi, extend right up to the beach and provide cooling in summer. The Aladscha cave monastery is also located on the slope .

With the exception of a small Orthodox chapel, there are no non-touristy buildings. Almost all of the staff at the facilities live outside the town.

The main season in Golden Sands is from June to August and the bathing season from mid-May to mid-October. Some luxury apartment houses have also been built on the beach. As a result, Golden Sands wants to offer the city year-round housing.

For some years now, the golden sands has also been called the “New Ballermann on the Balkans” because you can find more than ten discos here and “Mallorca stars” such as Jürgen Drews , Mickie Krause , Markus Becker , Ikke Hüftgold and Willi Herren here regularly in summer occur. Bulgaria's largest party mile has been located in the center of Golden Sands since 2004. The names of some discos were imported from the Ballermann in Palma de Mallorca . There is now a " Bierkönig Bulgaria", a "Dolphin Mega-Park " and a "Ballerman 6 Beach Bar" on the Golden Sands .

There are numerous shops on the golden sands, which are a mixture of shops and weekly market . The Aldi stores are a chain of stores with four branches in Golden Sands, but apart from the name and logo, they have nothing in common with the German Aldi stores. There are also many other imitations of German supermarket chains such as Spar ( Sparm ), Lidl ( Lidi ), Penny ( Renny , even with the slogan More for the Money ), Kaufland ( Kaufland ) and Aldi in another imitation, Aldo .

Others

The golden sands are seven kilometers away from Albena , another tourist town. The St. Konstantin and Elena lido is 8 kilometers south .

Buildings

In 2007 an observation tower with a tower restaurant was built in the center for 30 million leva , which is a replica of the Eiffel Tower on a scale of 1:10.
