Goodwill games / boxes
The international boxing tournament at the Goodwill Games was held every four years from 1986 to 1998. In 2001 the last competitions took place in Brisbane . It was organized by the AIBA and, depending on the number of participants, consisted of a round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals, with male boxers only competing in twelve weight classes. The most successful boxing nations at the Goodwill Games were the former Soviet Union and Russia with 24, Cuba with 23 and the USA with 9 gold medals.

In 1986
1986 met in the quarterfinals of Tommy Morrison - host Michael Bentt and Vitali Klitschko - host Swilen Rusinow in the heavyweight division. Bent, who surprisingly became WBO heavyweight world champion in 1993 after only 11 fights , was able to prevail on points and thus reached the semi-finals, but failed there against the Russian Vladimir Balay with 1: 4 judges' votes.

The world and three-time European champion Lezin won this fight by a narrow margin, defeating Ed Mahone in the semifinals and Lance Whitaker in the final .
In 1998
The two-time amateur world champion and Olympic champion Ariel Hernández boxed in the quarterfinals against the later WBO world champion Denis Inkin in the middleweight division. Hernández won this fight. With a semi-final victory over the Uzbek Dilshod Yarbekov and a final victory over the French Jean-Paul Mendy , he won the gold medal.
In 2001
In the light welterweight division, the American Anthony Thompson beat the later WBA and IBF middleweight world champion Daniel Geale clearly on points. But could only win the silver medal. Alexey Stepanov beat Selçuk Aydın in the lightweight (Stepanov was second and Aydin third). With Damián Austin and Marian Simion , two world champions faced each other in the light middleweight division. Austin won this battle with a 10-9 judge's vote.
