Goseong County ( Korean : 고성군 , Goseong-gun ) is located in Gangwon-do Province in South Korea . The administrative headquarters are in the city of Goseong-eup. The district had an area of 660 km² and a population of 28,392 inhabitants in 2019.
Before the 1953 armistice, which ended the Korean War , Goseong (north of the 38th parallel) was part of North Korea . Kaesŏng , which was south of the 38th parallel and part of South Korea before 1953, became part of the north after the armistice.
