Gottfried Joseph Albert Edward Rupert Franz Anton Maria Freiherr von der Heydte (born March 4, 1949 in Landshut ) is a German administrative lawyer . He was Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt .

Life

Gottfried von der Heydte was born in 1949 as the son of the legal scholar Friedrich August von der Heydte and his wife Gabrielle, b. Countess of Montgelas , born. In 1981 he was at Gerhard Ritter at the Law Faculty of the University of Würzburg with a thesis on the history of the conflict between the SPD with their party youth to Dr. jur. utr. PhD .

He was administrative director and permanent representative of the chancellor of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU). At the beginning of 2004 he became university chancellor with an open-ended contract. During his tenure, the handling of university books caused a public sensation. A preliminary investigation showed that between June 2005 and October 2006 parts of the historical collection of the Capuchins in the library of the KU were disposed of. After the theologian and manager Ulrich Hemel was initially not appointed as President by the Grand Chancellor of the University Gregor Maria Hanke , Bishop of Eichstätt, and further persons resigned from the university management, the leave of absence took place due to alleged inconsistencies in the “official, household and economic management” von der Heydtes - a contradiction was unsuccessful - and then the early retirement. The bishop's decisions were controversial. The headline in the Spiegel magazine, for example, was “Cleanup at Eichstätt”.

Von der Heydte is Knight of Honor and Devotion of the Sovereign Order of Malta .

Since 1970 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Markomannia Würzburg . Later he became a member of the KDStV Thuriniga Würzburg and KDStV Aureo-Danubia Ingolstadt.

His first marriage was to a baroness von Pölnitz (died 2001) and has two children. In 2005 he married Birgit Hermanns, a lawyer in Ingolstadt. One of his two brothers was the farmer, businessman and founder Rudolf-Konrad Graf von Montgelas (1939-2015). This established the Graf von Montgelas Foundation .
