Rudolf-Konrad Graf von Montgelas Freiherr von der Heydte (born Rudolf Konrad Emanuel Franz Sebastian Tarcisius Pius Joseph Maria Freiherr von der Heydte; born November 10, 1939 in Egglkofen ; † November 17, 2015 in Bad Aibling ) was a German farmer , businessman and Benefactor .

Life

Count von Montgelas was the son of the officer and legal scholar Friedrich August von der Heydte , a former member of the Bavarian State Parliament , and his wife Gabrielle, née Countess von Montgelas . In 1969 he was adopted by his childless uncle, Count Emmanuel von Montgelas . The legality of the adoption, which members of the Montgelas family contested for reasons of nobility, was ultimately confirmed by the Traunstein Regional Court . As a result, he founded a new line under nobility law, the "Montgelas von der Heydte Line", the tribe of the Barons von der Heydte.

He grew up at Schloss Egglkofen , where he enjoyed a bilingual, Franco-German upbringing, not only from his mother of French origin, but also from his governess , his "Lala", Paula Hentschel, who was previously the governess of the famous French aviator and Writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was. He interrupted his school education at the Jesuit college in St. Blasien in Baden-Württemberg and completed vocational training at Mercedes-Benz , first as a vehicle mechatronics technician and then as a technical industrial clerk . He first worked in sales at Mercedes-Benz and then switched to BMW , where he became department head for compensation transactions .

After the death of his uncle and adoptive father in 1969 he took over the Montgelas'sche Gutsverwaltung, the forestry , the brewery and the schnapps distillery in Egglkofen . a. In 1970 he sold the private archive of Minister Maximilian von Montgelas to the Bavarian Main State Archives and in 1971 the private reference library of Minister Maximilian von Montgelas to the Bavarian State Library - with the exception of part of the library and the drawings by Domenico Quaglio , the Munich architectural painter and Contemporary of the minister. As heir to Maximilian von Montgelas , he transferred all property, including Egglkofen Castle , to the non-profit Maximilian Joseph Garnerin, Count von Montgelas Foundation, founded in 2011 and based in Egglkofen. This was originally intended to be sold to the Free State of Bavaria , which was then not done. The foundation serves to preserve the legacy of the former Bavarian state reformer and to promote Bavarian-French exchange. Count von Montgelas was the sole member of the Board of Trustees. The sole founding board member until July 2015 was Pierre M. Wolff, founding chairman of the Montgelas Society for the Promotion of Bavarian-French Cooperation with headquarters in Munich and a branch in Paris , on whose extended board Graf von Montgelas was an assessor from 2003 to 2013.

Count von Montgelas was married to Freiin Schenk von Schweinsberg , with whom he has a daughter, Sybille-Franziska Freiin von der Heydte. In his second marriage he was married to Princess Biron von Curland , with whom he has the sons Friedrich-Franz and Hubertus. After that he lived in his third marriage with the Austrian farmer's daughter and housekeeper Ernestine Grimus, old Schiefer. His older brother is the administrative lawyer Gottfried von der Heydte , formerly Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt , and his younger brother is the Landshut lawyer Franz-Josef von der Heydte, who has been chairman of the Association of Catholic Nobles in Bavaria for many years.
