Gottfried Heer

Gottfried Heer (born April 11, 1843 in Gretschins ; † October 21, 1921 in Hätzingen , entitled to residency in Glarus and Hätzingen) was a Swiss politician (DP) , reformed pastor and historian .

Gottfried Heer was born on April 11, 1843 in Gretschins as the son of Pastor Christoph Heer. The graduate of the Aarau Cantonal School completed a degree in theology at the Universities of Basel , Zurich and Tübingen between 1862 and 1865 .

As a result, Gottfried Heer provided pastoral care as pastor and dean in Betschwanden from 1866 to 1906 . He also co-founded the Botanical Society in 1881 and the Natural Research Society of Glarus in 1887. The foundation of a sanatorium for lung patients in Braunwald and a health insurance company for the villages of Diesbach-Dornhaus , Betschwanden and Rüti can be traced back to his social commitment . He also emerged as the author of around 90 local historical works and as the editor of a Glarus family Bible.

The University of Zurich recognized Gottfried Heer with an honorary doctorate . He remained unmarried and died on October 21, 1921, six months after he had turned 78 in Hätzingen.

Political career

Gottfried Heer initially held the office of the Glarus Cantonal School Council from 1879 to 1987 . Subsequently, between 1895 and 1902 he was President of the Protestant Church Commission . In 1906 Gottfried Heer, a member of the Democratic and Workers' Party in Glarus, was elected to the Council of States , in which he was represented until 1914. However , he did not belong to any parliamentary group in the Federal Assembly . He also chaired the committee for a Swiss health and accident insurance fund.
