Gottfried Peter (born June 3, 1945 in Macherbach ) is a former German football player .

Career

Gottfried Peter played with Borussia Neunkirchen for two years in the Bundesliga , making his debut on October 17, 1964 in the away game against Werder Bremen , which was lost 2-0. The 19-year-old came from the Saarland amateur club VfB Macherbach in the summer of 1964 to the newly promoted Bundesliga Neunkirchen. Only attacker Günter Heiden , who was brought in from BSC Oppau , was able to play his way out of the newcomers to the team from the Ellenfeldstadion . Coach Horst Buhtz and his well-rehearsed team took tenth place. Young player Peter scored a goal as a center forward when he played for the second time in the Bundesliga on December 12, 1964, when he lost 3-2 at VfB Stuttgart. In his second year in the Bundesliga, 1965/66, the enthusiastic all-rounder was able to increase his playing times to 21 games, but Borussia Neunkirchen was relegated to the Southwest Regional Football League. He played his last league game for Neunkirchen on May 28, 1966, in the final 1-0 home win against Karlsruher SC. For the 1966/67 season Peter moved to the German Champion of the Year 1966 , TSV 1860 Munich , with whom he played in the Bundesliga for two more years.

The "Löwen" coach Max Merkel had also brought Wolfgang Fahrian and Friedel Lutz to his championship team and Ludwig Bründl was taken over from the youth . Merkel started the round with Peter on August 20, 1966 at 1. FC Köln. Petar Radenković in goal, as defenders Manfred Wagner and Bernd Patzke as well as in the runner row with Peter, Lutz and Željko Perušić formed the defensive of 1860 Munich in the 2-0 defeat. Peter underwent an own goal in the 26th minute of the game to make Cologne 1-0; Wolfgang Overath converted a minute later a penalty to make it 2-0. A great experience for the Saarlander was the participation in the local derby on October 15, 1966 against the "Reds" from FC Bayern Munich, in whose ranks the attack was made up of Rudolf Nafziger , Rainer Ohlhauser , Gerd Müller , Dieter Koulmann and Dieter Brenninger . On October 22, 1966, the tenth game day, the newcomer from Saarland completed his sixth Bundesliga appearance for the reigning German champions. Coach Merkel had set him up in the 3-0 home win against Fortuna Düsseldorf at the side of Alfred Heiß , Ludwig Bründl, Hans Küppers and Hans Rebele in the attack. An injury to his knee, which he sustained in a collision with the Düsseldorf defense chief Werner Biskup , forced him to take a ten-month break. It was not until August 26, 1967 that he was back in the Bundesliga under coach Albert Sing for the "lions" in the game against 1. FC Cologne. After his substitution on March 2, 1968 at the home game against 1. FC Nürnberg, the persistent knee problems forced him to end his professional career.

Peter stayed true to football and became a coach. His first team as a trainer was FC St. Wendel, followed by positions at SV Bliesen, VfB Theley, FV Lebach, FC Schmelz and FSV Sitzerath. The former tax inspector at the Neunkirchen tax office lives with his family in Theley .
