Gottfried von Dietze

Johann Gottfried von Dietze (born April 16, 1921 in Breslau ; † May 17, 2012 in Nieder-Moos ), legal knight of the Order of St. John , was a German pastor , horse specialist and pioneer of therapeutic riding .

family

He was the son of Constantin von Dietze (1891–1973), professor at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and President of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany , and Margarethe von Rauchhaupt (1891–1977).

Dietze married Marie-Else von Neumann-Cosel on April 13, 1950 in Freiburg im Breisgau (born June 13, 1921 at Gut Wirrwitz, Wroclaw district , Lower Silesia, † May 3, 2011), the daughter of Colonel and landowner Herbert von Neumann- Cosel, landlord of Arnsdorf ( district of Schweidnitz , Lower Silesia), and Marie-Luise von Wietersheim (Haus Wirrwitz). The couple has a son Erco (* 1958) and a daughter Susanne (* 1965).

Life

In 1938 he entered a cavalry - regiment one. The Second World War took him to France and Russia .

After a serious war injury near Stalingrad in 1942 , Dietze began to ride again, contrary to the advice of his doctors, thereby regaining his ability to walk and discovering the therapeutic value of the horse's movements for the human body.

Dietze studied after the war theology , and was first in Scotland , then in Vogelsberg ( Hesse worked). For years he still used the horse as a means of transport in everyday life, later he continued to work with horses in his free time. He trained numerous riding instructors, therapists and horses and developed saddles and bridles for all conceivable cases, for example for amputees .

In 1970 he was one of the founding members and chairman of the German Board of Trustees for Therapeutic Riding ; the center for therapeutic riding in Nieder-Moos goes back to his initiative.
