Gotthard August von Lowis of Monar (* 1. July 1801 in Riga ; † 22. July 1849 in Bergshof (Bolderaa) ( Livonia )), Mr. on Bergshof and Jürgensburg, was a Baltic noble knights with Scottish ancestry, from the noble family Löwis of Monar . He was a member of the district council and president of the Livonian Court of Justice.

Life

Gotthard August von Löwis of Menar was the firstborn of Friedrich von Löwis of Menar (1767-1824) and his wife Johanna Wilhelmine, a born baroness of Posse (1779-1831). Bred up with military rigor and always with his family at his father's war sites (for example in Eastern Galicia , Jarosław and Danzig ), he too should be educated and trained to be an officer . He attended from 1817 to 1818, the high school and then began the study of law . From 1824 to 1828 he was assessor at the regional court in Dorpat and from 1828 to 1831 at the Livonian court in Riga . On Hofgericht he was then from 1835 to 1847 and Vice President from 1847 to 1849 President . From 1833 to 1849 he was a deputy of the district council and honorary curator of the Rigas governorate grammar school. In 1839 he took over the pledge ownership of Castle Jürgensburg in Livonia. During his time as a deputy of the district council, GA campaigned for the landlord's rights and the peasant ordinance (of 1819). In 1833 he was a co-founder and in the years 1834–1837 and again 1839–1842, until he left, he was co-director of the Society for History and Archeology in Riga (GGuA). In 1839 he was awarded the 2nd class of the Order of St. Anne for his many years of activity in Saint Petersburg . During the cholera epidemic in 1848 he supported the widows and orphans living in the St. Petersburg suburbs.

In 1837 he married Anna Karoline Juliane Wöhrmann (1817–1885), the daughter of a merchant from Riga. Your children were:
