Gotthardt Church (Erfurt)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gotthardtkirche was a parish church in the old town of Erfurt . It was located at Gotthardtstraße 20, opposite the confluence with Hütergasse, and bore the patronage of St. Godehard of Hildesheim .

history

The Gotthardt Church was first mentioned in a document in 1182 and at that time served as the parish church of the surrounding streets. After the Reformation was introduced in Erfurt in 1525, the Gotthardt Church was no longer used for church services and slowly fell into disrepair in the following centuries. In 1740 the ruins were torn down, only the tower was initially preserved. However, this had to be demolished in 1858 because of dilapidation.
