Inner Martinikirche (Erfurt)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Martinikirche was a parish church on the Schlösserbrücke in the old town of Erfurt . To distinguish it from the (outer) Martinikirche , which stands outside the older city wall of Erfurt, it bears the suffix intra or inner Martinikirche. It was located within the older Erfurt city wall.

history

The church of the Martini community was initially located directly on the fish market , where it was mentioned in a document as early as 1181. Between 1415 and 1437 the Martinikirche was built on the northern corner between Predigerhof and Schlösserstraße as a Gothic parish church. After the introduction of the Reformation in 1525, their congregation was merged with that of the Benedictine Church on the Krämerbrücke . In 1736 the Martini church was destroyed in a fire and its ruins were then torn down.
