Neuwerkskirche (Erfurt)
The Neuwerkskirche (also called Cruciskirche ) is a church on the edge of the old town of Erfurt . Today it is a branch church of the Catholic parish of the Wigbertikirche .
history
The Neuwerk Church was first mentioned in a document in 1168. The church with the patronage of the Holy Cross ( lat. Sanctae crucis , hence Cruciskirche ) belonged to the monastery of the Augustinians , the Neuwerk monastery . From 1285 it was used as a parish church. In 1466, today's church was built in late Gothic forms, which were then redesigned in Baroque style between 1731 and 1735. In 1982 the community was merged with the Wigbertigemeinde.
organ
The organ of the Cruciskirche was built between 1732 and 1737 by the organ builder Franciscus Volckland from Erfurt. The purely mechanical instrument has 28 registers on two manuals and a pedal . It was restored and partially reconstructed from 2000–2003 by the organ builder Alexander Schuke (Potsdam).
