Paulskirche (Erfurt)
The Paulskirche was a church in the old town of Erfurt . Today only the tower, the Paulsturm , is left.
history
The Paulskirche was first mentioned in a document in 1181. The tower that is preserved today was built between 1465 and 1469. After the introduction of the Reformation in 1525, the church was only rarely used, as it was now directly opposite the closed preacher's monastery , whose large church now also served as a parish church . In 1736 a fire caused severe damage to the church, so that it was demolished by 1759. The tower was preserved and from then on served as the bell tower of the preacher's church. Its upper part was built from 1738 in the early classical style .
