Gottlob Pflugfelder (* 1915 ; † 2003 ) was a Swiss physician , clinic director and racial theorist .

Life

Pflugfelder received his doctorate in 1942 from the University of Basel with a thesis on primarily multiple small bowel sarcomas . He worked as a specialist FMH for neurology , psychiatry and psychotherapy in Chur . In 1951 he published psychological studies on changes in consciousness in the insulin cure . From 1951 to 1977 he was director of the Waldhaus clinic in Chur.

Pflugfelder took over from his pre-predecessor at the clinic Waldhaus, Johann Benedict Jörger , his addressing the Jeni . In it he used between "1950 and 1975 the psychiatric diagnoses ' vagant blood ' and ' vagant temperament '". In this way, according to Thomas Huonker, he “managed not only to tie in with the ' Liber vagatorum ' from 1509 but, going back even further, to the ancient teaching of Claudius Galenus on temperaments, as well as to the racist blood doctrine of fascism ”. Many Yeniche have been interned in the Waldhaus Clinic since Johann Benedikt Jörger was director. Under Pflugfelder, the clinic continued Jörger's "psychiatric family stories" about Yeniche using pedigrees that were updated and extended to other families. His successor at the Waldhaus Clinic, Benedikt Fontana , developed the research approach further. Among other things, this consisted of examining individual "clans":

"... For the doctor and genetic researcher , the Markus, Muhr and Wolzer clans are an exceptional observation item ... The Markus and Wolzer are so distinctive and typical in their physical and mental appearance that the power of their genes could hardly be more impressively demonstrated. In addition, hereditary inferences , nonsense , mental illnesses , but also microcephaly and nystagmus are found . ... In our state, which is liberal on the one hand, and socially very differentiated on the other, there is actually no longer any room for such a special social group - our "Jennish" live precisely in this border zone of human existence, on the edge of the community, also as parasites of this society ... The next decades will certainly be do not make the vagueness in Switzerland and in Graubünden disappear. ... "

- Gottlob Pflugfelder, 1961

Like his predecessors, he constructed "a hereditary degeneration of the traveling families under the sign of racial hygiene, which legitimized the removal of their children and the admission to institutions."
