The rural community Grýtubakki ( Icelandic Grýtubakkahreppur ) is located in northern Iceland in the region of Norðurland eystra . On January 1, 2019, it had 371 residents. The main town of the municipality is Grenivík with 301 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located on the east bank of Eyjafjörður , east of the island of Hrísey and north of Akureyri on the Flateyjarskagi peninsula . To the south is the municipality of Svalbarðsströnd , to the east Þingeyjarsveit .
The Fnjóská overcomes the breakthrough valley Dalsmynni and flows into the Eyjafjörður in Höfðahverfi.
Kaldbakur Mountain is north of Grenivík .
In the northeast of the municipality the Gilsá flows into the Hvalvatnsfjörður , which is east of the Þorgeirsfjörður .
history
An incorporation into the nearby city of Akureyri was rejected in a referendum on October 8, 2005.
