history

Grab was first mentioned in 1471. The name is derived from the Limes moat that runs directly through the village. At first, Grab, like most of the districts of the former community, was owned by the Lords of Weinsberg and came to Württemberg via the Counts of Hohenlohe and Count Palatine in 1504 as a result of the Landshut War of Succession . Grab then belonged to the Oberamt Weinsberg .

The municipality of Grab was founded in 1848 and belonged to the Oberamt , since 1938 the district of Backnang . The amalgamation of the communities Grab and Großerlach to form the new community Großerlach took place on July 1, 1974. Until then, the community included the village Grab, the hamlets Frankenweiler, Hohenbrach, Mannenweiler, Morbach, Schönbronn, Schöntalhöfle (also Schertelhöfle) and Trauzenbach as well as the Butzberg residential areas , Platte, Schöntalsägmühle and Schweizerhof. Before the incorporation, the municipality had an area of ​​14.95 km².
