Donald Graham Smith (born May 9, 1958 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian swimmer and one of the most successful swimmers in this country. In 1976 he won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Montreal with the relay over 4 × 100 meters and advanced to the top of the world. A year later he was able to secure both victories in the breaststroke at the Summer Universiade in Sofia, Bulgaria .

Smith's most successful career moments are undoubtedly in August 1978. First, he competed in his hometown Edmonton at the Commonwealth Games, where he was able to win six gold medals. He was the first ever athlete to do this. Only a few days later he was crowned world champion in the 200 meter medley in West Berlin during the swimming world championships and came second over 100 meters chest.

In 1986 Donald Graham Smith, who was enrolled at the University of California at Berkeley and also won numerous national championships, was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame located in Toronto . His brother Georg (* 1949) also swam.

International records

Smith held the world record over the 200 meter medley twice in the 1970s . He set the first record in Kansas City and the second in The Woodlands.
