Gregory Daniel Davies (born May 14, 1968 in St Asaph , Flintshire , Wales ) is a British comedian and actor of Welsh descent.

Life

Greg Davies was born on May 14, 1968 in St Asaph, Flintshire. His parents lived in England at the time of his birth; his Welsh father went to Wales with his heavily pregnant wife to make sure he would be born in Wales. Davies grew up in Wem , Shropshire, which he considers his home.

The family origins on the paternal side are in Porthmadog. Davie's paternal grandmother, Edith, and her sister were the illegitimate daughters of his great-grandfather, William Owen; he had a second family in Stanleytown. The family from North Wales is descended from Owain Gwynedd.

Davies went to Thomas Adams School in Wem and studied English Language and Drama at Brunel University in Uxbridge. Before beginning his comedy and actor career, he taught drama and English for 13 years at Langleywood School in Slough, Orleans Park School in Twickenham and Sandhurst School in Sandhurst.

Career

In 2005, Davies caricatured cricketer WG Grace in a series of commercials for Channel 4's coverage of the Ashes , an international cricket match between Australia and England that takes place twice in four years .

In 2007 Davies was nominated for the Chortle Award in the Breakthrough Act category for his stand-up comedy program. In the same year there were further nominations in the categories “Best Sketch, Variety or Character Act” and “Best Full-Length Show” as part of the sketch comedy team We Are Klang

In 2010, Davies program Firing Cheeseballs at a Dog was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He then took over the program for his first tour, which started in autumn 2011. He was also nominated for the Edinburgh Fringe's Malcolm Hardee Act Most Probely to Make a Million Quid.

At the side of Rhod Gilbert, he took part in 2011 in the format The most dangerous roads in the world , which led him to Nepal ; the program was first broadcast on September 11, 2011.

As of October 2013, Davies played the character Dan, a man who hates his job as a teacher, on the Channel 4 sitcom Man Down ; his father played Rik Mayall. Channel 4 commissioned an additional 25-minute Christmas special before the first season began broadcasting. A second season was announced during Davies' Live "The Back of My Mother's Head" tour, though this was overshadowed by the death of fellow actor Rik Mayall in June 2014. After Davies died, Davies met with Channel 4 to discuss the future of the show, as Mayall would play a more prominent role in season two. Channel 4 later announced that Man Down would not return until 2015 with a second season. The classroom used in the series is the same one Davies used to teach at Sandhurst School.

As of July 2015, Davies hosted the Taskmaster show on Dave television. In December 2015, he played Tony, the uncle of the characters Russell and Kerry Howard in the BBC Two comedy drama A Gert Lush Christmas . In 2015, he played the character of King Hydroflax on the Doctor Who Christmas special show The Husbands of River Song .

In 2016, Davies was on the last broadcast of the 23rd season of the BBC car magazine Top Gear alongside Patrick Dempsey , which was first broadcast in German-speaking countries on October 14, 2016.

His live show Magnificent Beast was recorded at Hammersmith Apollo for streaming provider Netflix in November 2017 .
