The Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle Mureck (short: GTK Mureck ) is a Styrian brass band based in Mureck in Austria . The orchestra is organized as a non-profit association . The catchment area of the music association includes the entire municipality of Mureck and the area of the former municipality of Murfeld .

history

A Mureck brass band already existed in the middle of the 19th century . However, the existence was repeatedly interrupted by tragic events in the southern Styrian border region. In addition, many musicians had to join the military during the First and Second World Wars , which meant that the band was no longer able to play. Under Kapellmeister Martin Zarfl it was possible to set up the market music band again and so the market music band of that time could perform again in 1947. As a result, it was decided to found a music association. On December 5, 1951, an application was made to the security office in Graz for approval to form a music club. The entry in the central register of associations took place on February 13, 1952. On April 4, 1952, the official founding meeting took place in the rehearsal room, Fritz Müller became chairman. In 1959, Kapellmeister Zarfl fell seriously ill, whereupon his previous deputy Franz Wurzinger took over the position of Kapellmeister . Before that, on May 1, 1954, the band played the wake-up call for the first time, which has been performed every year since then.

Under chairman Robert Kirchengast, the orchestra became a traditional costume band in 1962 and in 1963 the traditional costume that was worn at that time - proposed by the Styrian Folklore Museum - was bought. From then on, under staff leader Robert Kirchengast, the association bears the name “Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle Mureck”. In the 1940s to 50s, the uniform of the Mureck music band, which was marked by economic deficiencies, initially consisted only of white plate caps, which were later supplemented by blue trousers and gray jackets. At the beginning of the 1970s, with the great commitment of many sponsors, sponsors and donors that President Niederl had recruited, the acquisition of new instruments was achieved after some instruments that had survived the war became in need of repair.

Soon afterwards, there were also musical successes:

  • 1966: New Year's radio request concert
  • From 1966: Several times live with car drivers on the road , during the ORF morning shopping on Sundays, etc.
  • 1976: The Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle Mureck was the first Styrian brass band to produce a long-playing record at Tyrolis Music , which was marketed with great success.
  • In 1983 a second record followed under chairman Kurt Schilli. Both records were played by many broadcasters at home and abroad.
  • In 1993, both long-playing records were reissued as CD under the name of brass music for millions.

GTK Mureck also achieved great successes with Franz Wurzinger in competition games. The first place with distinction in the highest performance level could be achieved twice and one received many first prizes in " Music in Small Groups ", which have been supervised by the Mureck Music School since 1975 .

In 1993 Franz Wurzinger handed over the office to his previous deputy Walter Pock after 34 years as Kapellmeister. At that time the band had 48 members. There were also many successes and prizes under Kapellmeister Walter Pock. Among other things, the Styrian Panther and the Robert Stolz Prize in 2005 for excellent concert and march scores. In 2005, the New Year's Wish Concert, which has been held annually in early January since then, was established. In addition to the typical songs of brass bands, modern music is also presented. Since 2011, the New Year's wish concert has had an annually changing motto.

Kapellmeister Walter Pock handed over the musical leadership of the Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle Mureck to Ahlin Slavko in 2007, at the same time Robert Riedl took over the position of chairman. The Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle Mureck undertook another concert tour in 2008 to Frelsdorf in the district of Cuxhaven , Lower Saxony, and played for three days for the anniversary of TUS 08 eV. The musical direction was returned to Walter Pock in 2012, this time together with Lisa Bresnig and Gerhard Lackner. The organization of the association took over chairman Paul Schafzahl and chairman deputy Michaela Tesch.

Wake-up call from the Mureck border country costume band on May 1st on a restored truck

In 2013 the wake-up call took place for the 60th time, which is still one of the high points in club life.

Under the motto "160 years of brass music in Mureck", the Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle organized an anniversary festival in 2014 with district musicians' meeting and march evaluation on the main square in Mureck. At this first district musicians' meeting in the village since 1978, 17 music bands were guests. In autumn 2014, a concert took place for the first time in the municipality of Gosdorf , which was connected to Mureck in 2015, with the title “From Polka to Rock”. In 2015 the Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle received its third Styrian Panther in the Old University in Graz. The following year, the Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle Mureck represented Austria at the Musikparade Internationale Taptoe België in the Belgian cities of Ostend and Lommel .
