Grethe Sønck (born July 16, 1929 in Hjerm , Midtjylland region , † February 12, 2010 in Rågeleje , North Zealand ) was a Danish singer and actress .

Life

Grethe Sønck was born as Grethe Ingeborg Nielsen Hald in Hjerm, a small fishing village between Struer and Holstebro , in Mid-West Jutland. Since 1968 she has been called Sønck, the name of her stepfather. Her father, an Italian singer whom her mother fell in love with and followed to Paris , had left his family before Sønck was born.

At the age of 17 she won a singing competition in Hollænderbyen on the island of Amager in 1946 . In 1947 she got her first engagement as a singer in the Sommerlyst restaurant in the Danish amusement park Dyrehavsbakken . In 1952 her first single appeared with the two songs Sig hvorfor and Hvis en gang . From 1958 Sønck resumed her career as a singer after her failed first marriage. Between 1960 and 1964 she regularly took part in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix , the Danish qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest . There she sang the tracks Trækbasun & Vaskebræt (1960), Hjemme Hos Os (1961), a duet with Raquel Rastenni , and Verden Er En Gammel Bekendt (1962). In 1964 she performed there again, this time in a duet with Gustav Winckler , with the title Ugler i mosen .

In May 2007 Sønck celebrated her 60th anniversary as a singer. On this occasion, the CD Ta 'mig som jeg er was released in 2007 .

Sønck also worked as an actress. She made her debut in 1962 at the Cirkusrevyen Revue Theater in the summer arena of Dyrehavsbakken. She later performed with the Nykøbing Falster Revyen, among others . In the course of her career she played in over 50 revues and musical theater pieces. At the Amagarscenen Theater in Copenhagen she played in the musical Cabaret .

Sønck was also seen on Danish television and in some cinema productions from the 1960s . She often played in children's and youth films. In 1966 she played in the fairy tale film The Beggar Prince . In 1968 she played Connie in the hit crime comedy The Olsen Gang . In 1991 she was seen as Mrs. Albertsen in the comedy Frech wie Krümel . In 1998 she played the main female role as Ruth in The (really) very last trick of the Olsen gang , the final point of the Olsen gang . Her last film role was in the family film Krummerne-Så er det jul igen in 2006 .

In 1993 she received the Bakkens Oscar and in 2002 the Thorleif Theater Prize ( Årets Thorleif ) in recognition of her many years of experience in Danish music theater.

Sønck continued to be artistically active into old age. In the summer of 2009 she performed in the small revue theater in Rødvig på Stevns . In August 2009 she was seen at the Revyernes Revy .

Sønck was married to the Danish pianist, actor and theater director Sejr Volmer-Sørensen (1914–1982) from 1968 in his second marriage . After his death she lived alone in Rågeleje. On February 12, 2010, Sønck was found dead in her home.
