Grigori Efimowitsch Schislin
Grigori Jefimowitsch Schislin ( Russian Григорий Ефимович Жислин , often also Grigori Zhislin ; born May 14, 1945 in Leningrad ; † May 2, 2017 in Berlin ) was a Russian violinist and teacher .
Life
He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory under the guidance of teacher Yuri Yankelevich . At the age of 22, he won First Prize in the Paganini Competition and the silver medal in the Queen Elizabeth Competition . Schislin's repertoire includes concerts and recitals of all ages, for both violin and viola.
As a soloist Schislin has performed with the Leningrad / Petersburg Philharmonic , the Moscow Philharmonic, the State Symphony Orchestra, RRS (Milan, Turin), the RBC Orchestras (Australian), the Staatskapelle Dresden , the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig , the Vienna Symphony , the Sinfonia Varsovia , the Warsaw National Philharmonic, Krakow Philharmonic, Stockholm Radio Orchestra, Bergen Harmonie and the Lithuanian National Philharmonic. He played under the conductors Herbert Blomstedt , Aldo Ceccato, Erik Klass, Karl Österreicher, Kirill Kondraschin , Dimitri Kitajenko, Alexander Lasarew, Arvid Jansons, Juri Temirkanow, Mariss Jansons , Woldemar Nelsson, Sauilus Sondeckis, Tade Jarusz Strugala, Natan Rachlin, Noemevi, Vladimir Fedoseyev .
Schislin has made guest appearances at the Moscow Star, Warsaw Autumn , Prague Spring , Fiorentino Maggio, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival and Pablo Casal Festival in Puerto Rico. He was a member of the jury in the international violin competitions Paganini in Genoa, Montreal, Henryk Wieniawski in Poland, Citta di Brescia , David Oistrach in Moscow and Yehudi Menuhin Competition in England.
The musician has worked with the composers Alfred Schnittke , Edisson Wassiljewitsch Denissow , Sofia Gubaidulina and Krzysztof Penderecki . Schislin gave the first performance of Penderecki's violin concerto in Russia; Composer and interpreter formed a close relationship. Together they have recorded all of Penderecki's violin and viola works. In 1983, at Penderecki's request, Schislin began playing the viola in order to give the premiere of Penderecki's Viola Concerto. Penderecki dedicated his Cadenza per Viola Solo to Schislin.
Schislin was professor of violin and viola at the Royal College of Music in London and professor of violin at the University of Music in Würzburg . He was visiting professor in Finland, Norway and Poland. He has also given master classes in Germany, Croatia, the USA, Poland, Italy, France and Spain.
His internationally known students include Ilja Grubert , Dmitri Sitkowetski , Nicolas Koeckert , Daniel Hope and Sergei Chatschatrjan .
