The Grigorowitsch M-4 ( Russian Григорович М-4 , also Shchetinin Shch -4 (Щ-4), after the manufacturing plant in Saint Petersburg , Schetinin) was a single-engine flying boat of Russian origin.

development

The M-4 corresponded to the Grigorowitsch M-3 except for changes to the wing profile and the hull . The two-seater aircraft was made in composite construction. The pilots were seated next to each other. It was first powered by a Gnôme Monosoupape engine of 100 hp, which drove a pusher propeller.

Compared to the M-3, the support floats at the end of the lower wing for stabilization on the water have been revised. The boat step was given a concave shape and the keel a slight longitudinal slope. The tail unit could be adjusted in flight so that it could still provide lift even if the engine failed.

The first flight took place in 1915 and the type proved to be useful in testing in Sevastopol . A total of four machines were manufactured. Two each were used for reconnaissance flights over the Black Sea and the Baltic States .
