Grigorovich DG-53

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grigorowitsch DG-53 ( Russian Григорович ДГ-53 , also Grigorowitsch IP-4 , ИП-4) is a single-seat, single - engine low - wing fighter aircraft of Soviet origin. It is a smaller modification of the Grigorowitsch DG-52 with a self-supporting aluminum cell, two-spar wing with an elliptical wing outline and retractable rear wheel landing gear. Like the DG-52, the DG-53 was made entirely of metal, with the exception of the fabric-covered oars.

Instead of the 76 mm APK-4 cannon, a total of four 45 mm APK-11, reinforced by two SchKAS , were provided as armament. The machine was one with a NACA-hood -clad Wright R-1820 driven Cyclone engine with 640 hp and first flew in 1934. It remained at this a prototype.

When the development of recoilless weapons was discontinued, the machine was converted to the DG-53bis. The armament should now consist of SchWAK and two SchKAS . Shortly before the machine was completed in 1935, the project was stopped.
