The Grigorowitsch DG-52 (also Grigorowitsch IP-1 , Russian Григорович ИП-1 or ДГ-52 ) is a single-seat, single - engine low - wing fighter aircraft of Soviet origin.
development
The DG-52 is based on the Grigorowitsch IZ , but is aerodynamically much improved. The self-supporting aluminum cell was also stiffened. The wing structure consisted of two spars made of high-strength steel, the planking was made of aluminum. The wing outline was elliptical. The landing flaps were operated hydraulically, as was the rear wheel landing gear. Except for the fabric-covered oars, the entire aircraft was made of metal.
A special feature was the fixed attachment of the recoilless 76 mm APK-4 cannon developed by Kurschewski at around 55% of the wingspan at an external load station. Five shots were provided for each cannon. The first flight was carried out in 1934 with a 640 hp Wright R-1820 engine clad with a NACA canopy and a standard Hamilton propeller. In addition to the APK-4, two SchKAS were carried, which shot through the propeller circle. The flight tests were successful and 200 machines of this type were ordered. The 635 hp licensed version of the Wright R-1820, the M-25, was intended as the drive.
At this point the development of the AKP-4 was stopped. In order to still obtain adequate armament, conventional 20 mm SchWAK were built into the wing root and six SchKAS were installed in place of the AKP-4. Due to the changed armament, however, the focus shifted so that the flight characteristics were difficult to control. Interception from a spin was almost impossible with full armament. At first it was considered to use a special brake parachute to get out of the spin. However, it was then decided to mount it as a greatly enlarged dorsal fin.
Because of the difficulties, only 90 machines were manufactured between 1936 and 1937 and production was discontinued in favor of the Polikarpow I-16 .
Grigorovich DG-54
The Grigorowitsch DG-54 (also Grigorowitsch IP-2 ) was planned on the basis of the DG-52 . However, this type did not get beyond the design stage and the project was abandoned in 1936. Like the DG-52, the DG-54 was designed as a single-seat, single-engine low-wing fighter aircraft, but the armament with up to twelve SchKAS or two SchKAS and four SchWAK should be much stronger. A Hispano-Suiza 12X with 760 hp was planned as the engine . The takeoff weight should have been 1952 kg, the calculated top speed was 520 km / h.
