The Grigorovich M-24 ( Russian Григорович М-24 ) was a Soviet flying boat in biplane construction method from the 1920s.

development

Dmitri Grigorowitsch , at that time working at GAS Plant No. 3 “Red Aviator” in Petrograd , began development work in April 1922, based on his successful M-9 . In contrast to this, the M-24 received ailerons on both wings , and the fuselage and the surfaces were changed overall. A Renault engine with 220 hp served as the drive .

In 1923 the M-24 carried out flight tests and was then produced in a number of 40 machines, which were delivered from April 1924. The flight performance, however, was quite unsatisfactory, and the pilots and maintenance staff complained about many defects that had occurred, so Grigorowitsch revised the design again. Some design improvements were made and a more powerful Renault engine with 260 hp was installed.

The machine designated as M-24bis flew for the first time in the autumn of 1924. 20 copies were built of it, which were used by the Soviet Navy as a coastal reconnaissance aircraft until 1926.

The M-24 was the last flying boat designed by Grigorowitsch; During the redesign of the M-24bis, he switched to the GAS plant No. 1, where he designed the I-2 fighter, among other things .
