Large brewery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Germany, a large brewery is the name given to individual breweries with an annual production of over 250,000  hectoliters per year.

history

The proportion of large breweries among the breweries is declining both numerically and in terms of percentage. In 1994 there were 105 companies with an annual production of more than 200,000 hectoliters, in 2013 there were only 69 such companies. This applies above all to the area up to a production volume of 1 million hectoliters, while the number of companies above this is relatively constant at 27 and 28 respectively.

Differences in the facts are often based on the fact that brewery groups are referred to as large breweries in public, but are separated in statistics according to brewing facilities or breweries. There are also rankings of the beer brands with the highest sales , which in turn result in different rankings and after which, for example, in Germany in 2011 the most Oettinger (approx. 6.2 million hectoliters), Krombacher (approx. 5.4 million hectoliters) and Bitburger ( approx. 4.0 million hectoliters) was drunk.
