Gran Premio de San Sebastian

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gran Premio de San Sebastián ( Grand Prix of San Sebastián ) was an automobile race that was held eight times between 1923 and 1930 on the Circuito Lasarte in Lasarte-Oria near San Sebastián in Spain . The Gran Premio de San Sebastián was part of the almost one-week Grand Automobile Meeting in San Sebastián.

In the 1920s, the Grand Prix was the most important automobile race in Spain, as the Spanish Grand Prix had not yet established itself as a Grand Prix race. The races, or the entire automobile meeting, are therefore often incorrectly referred to as the Spanish Grand Prix today, even though, for example, a sports car race with the title Spanish Grand Prix took place in 1929 as part of the meeting .

The eighth Gran Premio de San Sebastián was scheduled for July 25, 1930. However, the race was canceled due to the Great Depression. After the organizers' efforts, the AIACR approved the event on October 5, 1930. This run was also the last Gran Premio de San Sebastián. When the racing circuit returned to the Circuito Lasarte in 1933, the Spanish Grand Prix was held there.
