The Great Stierberg is 675  m above sea level. A. high elevation in the main ridge of the Hausruck and Kobernaußerwald train between the Innviertel and Traunviertel in Upper Austria . It is hardly visible in the profile of the ridge.

Location and landscape

The mountain is located in the eastern center of the Kobernaußerwald , above Friedburg and Munderfing . It belongs to the south-western ridge of the Kobernaußerwald, which stretches down to Friedburg to the Mattig Valley. Stierberg is the name given to the entire over one kilometer long, non-profiled ridge from the Kote  671  m above sea level. A. in the north to Marterl St. Wolfgang 680  m above sea level. A. southwest, which is actually the highest point. The Kleine Stierberg is the summit neighboring there to the south.

To the east lies the Weißbachtal at Schneegattern , from the Siegerertal - Stierbergtal lead up, to the south the Erknertal and Mehrental at Ober- and Mittererb , and to the east the Teufeltal at Munderfing - Bradirn . All of these streams drain to the Schwemmbach (Mattig and Inn).

History and Development

The Friedburger Steig , an old high path from Friedburg in the south to St. Johann am Walde in the north, runs over the mountain . It leads from Friedburg over the Seelentaferl to Weißenstein  ( 683  m above sea level ) - St. Wolfgang - Frauschereck , i.e. from the former Erzstift-Salzburg border areas in the Mattig Valley to the central Innviertel , once the Bavarian Innbaiern .

The mountain can be reached from almost any place between Munderfing and Schneegattern via forest paths or more or less good climbs, through the valleys as well as along the ridges. One path, for example, leads up from the Naturfreundehaus Schneegattern . From the Hausruck-Kobernaußerwald-Weitwanderweg  (HKWW / 10HK Haag - Mattighofen , part of the Rupertiweg / E10 ) you can reach the mountain via the Friedburger Steig, which branches off where - coming from the east - the main ridge divides and the north-western ridge and the HKWW in the direction of Helpfau-Uttendorf , which is about 3 kilometers northeast of the Stierberg.
