The Gruttbach , also Gruttbach I , is an orographically right and almost 5 km long tributary of the Haferbach in East Westphalia-Lippe .

The Gruttbach rises in Lagenser district Billingshausen on the north slope of up to 206 m high Hörster harrow near the L 945. From its origin from the stream flowing north to billing Hauser Heide and takes there the Gruttbach II. In the further course the brook touches Kachtenhausen and Ohrsen in the east and flows behind the former sewage treatment plant Ohrsen (today pumping station Ohrsen) on the right side into the larger Haferbach. The Gruttbach is the largest Haferbach tributary in terms of catchment area, length and water flow.

River length

According to the information provided by the Land Survey Office in North Rhine-Westphalia, the total length of the Gruttbach is given as 4.997 km. The entire stream is referred to as "Gruttbach I". In the German basic map and in linguistic usage, however, the stream is called "Gruttbach" and Gruttbach II is referred to as the upper reaches of the Gruttbach. This 1.64 km long brook rises approx. 500 m southwest of the source of the Gruttbach I. If you look at the Gruttbach II as the upper reaches of the Gruttbach, the flow distance is 5.24 km.

The Gruttbach has two tributaries depending on the perspective (see section River length). Depending on which brook (Gruttbach I or Gruttbach II) is assumed to be the upper course, the Gruttbach II is a left tributary of the Gruttbach I or the Gruttbach I is a right tributary of the Gruttbach II. Another tributary of the Gruttbach is the Sunderbach with a length of 3.9 km, which flows out on the right at Wissentrup at KM 1.4.

The Gruttbach is assigned to water quality class II. This means that he is moderately stressed.
