Grzegorz Ryś (born February 9, 1964 in Kraków ) is a Polish clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Łódź .

Life

The Archbishop of Kraków , Cardinal Franciszek Macharski , ordained him as a priest on May 22, 1988 in Wawel Cathedral . Parallel to his theological training, he studied church history at the Pontifical Academy for Theology in Krakow . In 1994 he received his doctorate and in 2002 he received his habilitation in the humanities in the subject of history . He was a member of historical commissions for canonization processes, including those of John Paul II. Ryś is active in ecumenical and interreligious dialogue and was the initiator of the "Echo Assisi" peace meeting between Jews, Christians and Muslims in Krakow. He has been a member of the International Auschwitz Committee since 2012 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on July 16, 2011 titular bishop of Arcavica and auxiliary bishop in Krakow. The Archbishop of Kraków, Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz , ordained him episcopal on September 28 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Cardinal Franciszek Macharski, Archbishop Emeritus of Kraków, and Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko . His motto is Virtus in infirmitate .

On September 14, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Łódź. He was inducted into office on November 4, 2017.

On 25 June 2020 it appointed Pope Francis to apostolic administrator sede plena of the diocese of Kalisz , bringing the jurisdiction of the diocesan Bishop Edward Janiak is suspended until further notice.
