Marek Jędraszewski (born February 24, 1949 in Poznan ) is a Polish clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Krakow .

Life

The Archbishop of Poznan , Antoni Baraniak SDB , donated the sacrament of ordination to him on May 24, 1973 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Forum Popilii and auxiliary bishop in Poznan on May 17, 1997 . The Archbishop of Posen, Juliusz Paetz , donated him the episcopal ordination on June 29th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Zenon Grocholewski , Secretary of the Apostolic Signature , and Marian Przykucki , Archbishop of Stettin-Cammin . As a motto he chose Scire Christum .

On July 11, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Łódź . The solemn inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on September 8 of the same year.

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Krakow on December 8, 2016, to succeed Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz . The inauguration took place on January 28 of the following year. Heiner Geissler viewed his appointment as a mistake by Pope Francis. Part of the Polish media accuses Jędraszewski of being politically committed to the Law and Justice party (PiS) led by Jarosław Kaczyński .

Marek Jędraszewski has been Vice Chairman of the Polish Bishops' Conference since March 2014 .

Scientific career

Marek Jedraszewski studied in the years 1967-1973 in the seminary and on the Catholic theological faculty of the University of Poznan. In 1974 he obtained a licentiate in theology in Poznan, the subject of his work was the examination of the philosophy of Gabriel Marcel. His scientific career took him to Rome a year later, where he obtained a further licentiate, this time in philosophy, and a doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1977 and 1979. He conducted research in the field of the philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas, about whose philosophical work in relation to Jean Paul Sartre he finally wrote his habilitation thesis in Krakow (1991).

Positions (selection)

In the summer of 2019, Jędraszewski spoke of a new "epidemic in the colors of the rainbow" in a speech on the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. (see LGBT ideology-free zone )
