Career

Guðmundur Bragason initially played for years for the basketball team of the Ungmennafélag (UMF) from Grindavík . With this team, however, he was only able to win the championship in the Úrvalsdeild karla for the first time in 1996 . He then moved abroad and joined the BC Johanneum from Hamburg in the 2nd basketball league in Germany during the 1996/97 season . In the 2. BBL 1996/97 you could win the group north after only three main round defeats as the first in the table, but failed in the first division relegation at first division BG Steiner Bayreuth and the southern group first USC Freiburg . The following season 2. BBL 1997/98 they finished tied with the table first BG Oldenburg-Westerstede as third, but this time had to let the first division MTV Giessen and SSV Hagen go ahead in the first division relegation . Then Guðmundur Bragason initially returned to UMF Grindavík. When the club became illiquid, however, it was committed in January 1999 by the ambitious previous Hamburg league competitor SSV Einheit from Weißenfels . At the end of the season, the Weißenfelser, who had only been promoted last year, finished second in the group north in the 2nd BBL 1998/99, tied behind the BC Johanneum . While the Hamburg team secured promotion to the top division in the relegation round , the Weißenfels team initially narrowly missed the promotion, but were later able to move up to the top division for another team. However, Guðmundur Bragason returned to his homeland and still played for Haukar from Hafnarfjörður . With this team, however, he could not win any further titles, just as little as for his home club UMF Grindavík, where he ended his active career after two years in 2004.

In the Icelandic men's selection, Guðmundur Bragason made his debut against Sweden in 1987 . 168 more missions followed until 2003. Bragason was denied particular successes during this time, apart from the competitions of Division C of FIBA Europe for small states and the games of the small states of Europe .
