Guamá is a municipality in the Cuban province of Santiago de Cuba . It runs elongated west of the provincial capital Santiago on the Caribbean coast to the west of the Granma province . In the north it borders on the Municipios Tercer Frente and Palma Soriano . The administrative seat of the municipality is the small town of Chivirico . The highest peaks are the Pico Real del Turquino , the Pico Cuba and the Pico Suecia .

The main industry in the region is agro-industry. The most important products are coffee, wood, citrus fruits, fish and cattle.

The municipality of Guamá has 35,516 inhabitants spread over an area of ​​964.6 km², which corresponds to a population density of 36.8 per km².

The municipality owes its name to the Taíno - Kazike Guamá , who led a rebellion against the Spanish conquistadors in 1530 .
