Gustav Adolph von Bennigsen , modernized Gustav Adolf von Bennigsen , (born August 11, 1716 in Leipnitz , † August 3, 1784 in Dresden ) was a lieutenant general from Electoral Saxony .

Life

Gustav Adolf was a member of the widespread noble family von Bennigsen . His parents were Wolf Erich von Bennigsen (1657–1736) and Charlotte Eleonore Vitzthum von Eckstädt (1682–1747).

career

Bennigsen was a silver page at the electoral court in 1735 before joining the Saxon army . In 1739 he was already a lieutenant in Infantry Regiment No. 3 . He then rose to the position of captain in 1743 and moved as a major to Infantry Regiment No. 4 in 1746 . Here he advanced to lieutenant colonel in 1751 . The following year he became Lieutenant Captain of the Cadets . In 1756 he was promoted to colonel and joined the Electoral Saxon Infantry Regiment No. 10 . He took part in the Seven Years' War , during which he was promoted to major general in 1761 and was able to stand out for his bravery , especially in the battle near Lutterberg in 1762 . In 1763 he returned to the cadet company as a captain (= boss ). In 1767 he was also General Inspector of the Infantry and in 1768 also Knight of the Order of Henry . Bennigsen was promoted to lieutenant general in 1777 and finally became chief of the Kursächsisches Infantryregiment Nr. 13 in 1781 .
