Gustav Bjork

Gustav "Måsen" Björk (born July 10, 1900 , † 1927 or 1928 ) was a Swedish football player . In 1921 he played two international matches for the Swedish national team .

Career

Björk was promoted to the competition team at Hammarby IF in 1917 . For the club he entered both the top division of the time, the Svenska series , and in the national championship, which was held in cup mode before the introduction of the Allsvenskan as a national division in 1924 . There the club was regularly among the finalists, but HIF usually failed before the quarter-finals. In 1921 the team was eliminated in the quarterfinals with a 0-1 home defeat at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium against IFK Eskilstuna . However, she won the district championship after a 3-0 final win against Stockholms BK , Björk was instrumental with two goals. The following year, Hammarby IF moved into the final in the national championship. Despite a goal from Björk, the game was lost to Gothenburg club GAIS with a 3-1 defeat, thanks in particular to three-time goalscorer Bror Carlsson . Also in the district championship remained after a 3-0 defeat in the final against AIK only the runner-up. In 1924 Hammarby IF was one of the founding members of Allsvenskan, but rose directly from bottom of the table. Björk scored two goals in ten games.

1921 appointed the selection committee of Svenska Fotbollförbundet Björk as a selection player in the Swedish national team . In May of that year he made his debut in his home stadium, the Stockholm Olympic Stadium, for his colors in the 3-0 defeat by the Finnish team , when the Swedish federation took ten players from Stockholm district champion Hammarby IF (defender Gustav Ehn from the final opponent Stockholms BK added the Team) on the field. In September he came to a second use when the clash with Norway ended again with a 3-0 defeat.

Parallel to his football career, Björk also played for Hammarby IF in ice hockey and bandy .

Björk, who suffered from diabetes, died at the age of 27.
