Gustav Karl Wilhelm Weigelt (born August 21, 1819 in Magdeburg , † June 21, 1876 in Berlin ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general and most recently the commander of the 1st foot artillery brigade.

His parents were the captain a. D. from the 26th Infantry Regiment Ernst Wilhelm Weigelt (* November 21, 1789; † March 24, 1862) and his wife Karoline Weymar (* 1799).

Life

He received his education at the Domgymnasium and the higher secondary school in Magdeburg . From there he came to Potsdam as a cadet on September 1, 1832, and to Berlin as a cadet on August 9, 1833 . From there he came to the 3rd Artillery Brigade on August 18, 1836, where he was aggregated as a second lieutenant . From October 1, 1837 to September 30, 1838 he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School . After his return, he was recruited on December 21, 1838 as an artillery officer with a patent on November 7, 1836. From May 1, 1842 to September 30, 1847 he was then used as a fireworks lieutenant. He was then from March 31, 1848 to February 1, 1854 regimental or brigade adjutant , during which time he was appointed Premier-Lieutenant on October 6, 1849 . On May 20, 1854, he was appointed captain and battery chief and on January 1, 1857, transferred to the fortress artillery regiment. From there he came to the 2nd Artillery Inspection on July 1, 1858 as an adjutant. On August 24, 1861, he was promoted to major and came as an adjutant to the General Inspection of the Artillery, in addition he was placed à la suite of the East Prussian Artillery Brigade No. 1. He was also appointed a member of the Examination Board for Premier Artillery Lieutenants on July 15, 1862. On May 10, 1865, he came to the field artillery regiment No. 4 as a department commander.

During the German War he fought near Münchengrätz , Preßburg and Königgrätz . On June 8, 1866, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and, after the war, on September 20, 1866, he was awarded the Order of the Crown, 3rd Class with Swords .

On March 22, 1867 he took over as commander of the Pomeranian fortress artillery regiment No. 2. There he was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1868 . On May 2, 1868, he was appointed chief of the General Staff of the General Artillery Inspectorate, and he also became a member of the General Artillery Committee. On September 21, 1871, he became the commander of the 3rd Artillery Brigade and was placed à la suite of the General Staff. There he was promoted to major general on March 22, 1873 and commanded the 1st foot artillery brigade from June 9, 1874. On January 18, 1876, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves . On April 13, 1875, he was put on the disposition due to illness with the character of a lieutenant general with a pension , but he remained a member of the General Artillery Committee.

He died a little later on June 21, 1876 in Berlin and was buried on June 24, 1876 in the cemetery in Hasenheide .

Weigelt married Rosalie Auguste Henriette Käsemacher (* 25 August 1820, † 18 February 1849), a daughter of the gold and silver worker Karl Friedrich Käsemacher , on June 5, 1841 in Magdeburg . The couple had three daughters, including:
