Gustav von Meyern-Hohenberg

Gustav Freiherr von Meyern-Hohenberg (born September 10, 1820 in Calvörde , † March 1, 1878 in Konstanz ) was a German poet lawyer, artistic director and playwright.

Life

Gustav von Meyern came from the originally Vogtland noble family von Meyern , which was named Meyern-Hohenberg after the Hohenberg estate in the Altmark region since 1815 . He was the son of the major and leaseholder Leopold von Meyern-Hohenberg (1766–1846) and his much younger wife Dorothea Sophia, née. by Brandis (1793-1886). From 1818 to 1833 his father was the leaseholder of the Calvörde domain in Brunswick, and in 1833 he acquired the Schladen estate near Krusemark. His sister Luise married Nestor von Schlözer and his sister Wilhelmine married Georg Ferdinand von Lepel in his third marriage.

He studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin . Since 1842 he was a member of the Corps Lunaburgia. In 1843 he joined the civil and court services of the Duke of Coburg Ernst I. In 1848/49 he was legation secretary at the representation of the duchy at the German Confederation .

He was going. Cabinet councilor and, on April 4, 1860, director of the ducal court theater, which he headed until September 11, 1868. He was not very successful with his dramas.

Since January 25, 1855 he was married to Clara Bertha (* July 21, 1836), b. von Alvensleben , the daughter of the major general and court marshal Busso XVI. von Alvensleben and his wife Juliane, b. von Bissing-Kornatowski (1804–1889). The couple had five children, three sons and two daughters.
