politics

Due to the surprising death of War Minister Theodor von Wundt , Steinheil was appointed a little later, in July 1883, by King Karl as head of the War Ministry in the Midnight Government, which corresponded to the function of War Minister, but without initially using this title. It was not until February 28, 1885 that he officially became Minister of War and was appointed Lieutenant General in 1887 and General of the Infantry in 1891. On May 10, 1892, Steinheil retired for health reasons.
