Gustavo Girón Higuita

Gustavo Girón Higuita OCD (born May 28, 1940 in Medellín , Colombia ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and emeritus bishop of Tumaco .

Life

Gustavo Girón Higuita joined the Order of the Discalced Carmelites and was ordained a priest on December 2, 1967 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on February 8, 1990 Vicar Apostolic of Tumaco and Titular Bishop of Bisica . He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, Angelo Acerbi , on April 22 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Carlos José Ruiseco Vieira , Archbishop of Cartagena , and Miguel Angel Lecumberri Erburu OCD, Emeritus Vicar Apostolic of Tumaco.

With the elevation to the diocese on October 29, 1999 he was appointed the first bishop of Tumaco.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on July 25, 2015.
