Győző Simon Macalik

Győző (Viktor) Simon Macalik (born March 1, 1890 in Sibiu ( German:  Hermannstadt ), then in Austria-Hungary ; † August 19, 1953 in Bucharest ), was auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Alba Iulia between 1950 and 1953 .

Life

He attended high school in Oradea ( German  Großwardein , Hungarian Nagyvárad ) and Alba Iulia , ( German  Karlsburg , Hungarian Gyulafehérvár ), studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1913 . On 15 July 1916 he received in Innsbruck by Archbishop Sigismund Waitz , the priesthood and remained until the end of the First World War in Austria . He led young men to the priesthood , taught at the Marianum in Cluj ( German:  Klausenburg , Hungarian: Kolozsvár ), became a spiritual director at the seminary in Alba Iulia in 1922 and was a professor of theology there from 1938 to 1941 .

He was appointed auxiliary bishop in Alba Iulia, while the titular bishop of Azotus appointed and on 30 June 1950 by Alexandru Cisar the Archbishop of Bucharest consecrated . The episcopal ordination probably took place in the Franciscan monastery in Orăştie , where Archbishop Cisar had been interned since May 1950.

Győző (Viktor) Simon Macalik was imprisoned in August 1951 and died on August 19, 1953 in Jilava prison near Bucharest.
