The Biel-Seeland grammar school is one of the largest grammar schools in the canton of Bern . It consists of the Alpenstrasse location (the former Gymnasium Alpenstrasse ) and the See location (the former Seeland Gymnasium Biel , which in turn emerged from the former German Gymnasium Biel and the Gymnasium Linde).

Since August 2014, the grammar school has been the only German-speaking grammar school in Biel, alongside the grammar school Français de Bienne .

The Matura certificates entitle you to enroll at all Swiss universities. According to the old regulations, type A, type B, type C and type D were offered. The last Matura certificates according to the old regulations were issued in 2001. Today, Matura certificates are issued with all major subjects except Greek, Russian and Latin.

Locations

Location lake

The majority of the lessons take place on the beach in Biel. The school complex is located near Lake Biel at the Schüss estuary. The building is also home to the Gymnase Français de Bienne , where French-speaking students from Zealand and parts of the Jura go to school. Only two of the four buildings are exclusively assigned to one of the two schools.

Alpenstrasse location

The municipal high school has its roots at Alpenstrasse 50 in Biel. Classes for high school classes from the Biel-Seeland high school and the French high school take place here. The business school, which is run jointly by both grammar schools, is also at home here.

Seevorstadt location

On the Seevorstadt, right behind the railway tracks, there are the learning offices of the business school, rooms for artistic design and a gymnastics room, which are used intensively by the school. It is the former traffic school. A beautiful villa belongs to the cantonal property, but the two rectors do not live in it.

Linde site

Until the summer of 2012, the Biel-Seeland high school used the Linde site, first as the Linde high school and later as the Seeland high school. The school complex is located in the Madretsch Süd quarter directly on the Längholzwald and shares the building complex with the Biel Fachmittelschule and parts of the vocational preparatory school year (BVS) in Biel.

Training

High school diploma

The majority of the high school Biel-Seeland is made up of the pupils who are aiming for the Matura certificate. The Matura certificate guarantees admission to most of the university courses and the universities of teacher education.

Commercial vocational baccalaureate

For three years, the students learn what they will later need as a basis as businessmen. Then they complete a one-year internship in a company and graduate with the professional baccalaureate and the federal certificate of proficiency. This gives you access to advanced technical colleges.

Matura

The technical middle school is part of the Biel-Seeland high school. It leads to the specialist maturities in the occupational fields of health, social work and education. The Pedagogy Maturity gives exam-free access to the pre-school and primary level course of the PHBern, whose graduates can teach from kindergarten to sixth grade.

Bilingual Matura

The Biel-Seeland Gymnasium and the Gymnase français jointly run three to four bilingual high school classes. Half of the subjects are taught in the other language by native speaker teachers. The Matura examinations are taken in the language in which the examination subjects were taught. The Matura certificate is federally recognized and bears the note "Bilingual Matura: German - French".

history

German Gymnasium Biel

Today's location around 1900. The sports hall is now at the location of the building in the center of the picture, the other buildings on the right-hand side of the Schüss .

The construction of a new grammar school on the beach floor was approved by the Biel city council in 1971. According to plans by the architect Max Schlup , a building complex with three classroom buildings and a sports hall was built between 1975 and 1982, which was partially replaced and completely renovated in 2015 due to the poor structural condition.

The German-speaking high school in Biel receives good grades from its graduates during their studies. Political education and culture are key areas.

Mergers

In 2005, the Gymnasium Linde Biel and the German Gymnasium Biel merged. The school only got a name in 2006: Seeland Gymnasium Biel. A second merger took place in 2014, which created the Biel-Seeland high school out of the Seeland Gymnasium Biel and the Gymnasium Alpenstrasse. Leonhard Cadetg has been the rector since August 2005.

Even before the first merger, the government council had spoken out in favor of concentrating grammar school education in Biel-West. However, it took more than ten years before the renovation and expansion of the Strandboden school complex could begin. It will be provisionally completed in summer 2016. However, the demographic development and the abandonment of the Alpenstrasse location in the 2020s will make the next stage of expansion unavoidable.
