The Gymnasium Ochsenhausen is the state high school of the city of Ochsenhausen and the surrounding area in the district of Biberach in Upper Swabia .

history

In the documents of the imperial abbey of Ochsenhausen the establishment of a "monastery high school" in 1613 can be proven. Well-known teachers at this school included Basilius Perger and Dominicus Beck . In 1803 the grammar school was closed together with the monastery. Over a hundred years later, in 1914, a "Private Latin and Realschule Ochsenhausen" was founded in Ochsenhausen . The headmaster at that time was Benedikt Schöllhorn. In 1914 the school had ten students.

In 1937 the Latin school was converted into a state high school for boys . The teaching administration under the Württemberg Minister of Education and SA - Obergruppenführer Christian Mergenthaler relieved Benedikt Schöllhorn of his office at the same time. The new headmaster was Arnold Köhler, who died in 1941 in the Barbarossa company . In 1942 Kreszentia Neidlinger took over the school management on a temporary basis. In 1945 Max Schweizer, meanwhile promoted to the faculty member and, having returned seriously wounded from the war, was headmaster. In 1949 the school had 39 students.

In 1953, the high school was renamed Progymnasium . The school belongs to the mathematical and scientific type with the language sequence English, French. In 1978 the Progymnasium was expanded into a full institution. In 1981 the first class of high school graduates, consisting of 15 pupils, passed. 1987 Ochsenhausen received his music train. In 1989 the Ochsenhausen grammar school celebrated its 75th anniversary. In 1998, after 25 years, Gerhard von Boyen handed over the post of headmaster to Karl Hack . In 2004, due to the increasing interest in Latin, this old language was offered as an alternative to French from grade 6. After 13 years as headmaster, Karl Hack left high school in 2011. Elke Ray was appointed his successor.

On July 1, 2011, a cooperation concert between the high school big band and the SWR Big Band took place in the Kapfhalle in Ochsenhausen.

Princely building

On April 25, 2010, a majority of the citizens of the city of Ochsenhausen decided in a referendum that the grammar school Ochsenhausen should receive rooms in the princely building of the former imperial abbey of Ochsenhausen and that the new Werkrealschule should be located in the Reinstetten district. This confirmed the original resolution of the local council.
