The Gymnasium am Bötschenberg (internal school for short: GaBö ) is a grammar school in the Lower Saxony district town of Helmstedt in Germany , which was a pure upper-level grammar school until July 31, 2004 . The school was expanded to include six classes in the 11th year. From the 2004/2005 school year, it was expanded to include grades 5 to 6 in addition to the upper level. In the following years another school year was added, so that in the 2009/2010 school year all grades were available. The catchment area of the grammar school extends over the entire district of Helmstedt . The school is a member of the school association 'View over the fence' .

history

The “State High School under Construction” on Wilhelmstrasse in Helmstedt was founded in 1948; the first classroom was moved into on Brunnenweg in Bad Helmstedt . The upper school was integrated into the 11th grade of the Julianum in 1952 . Growing scarcity of space, the lack of specialist rooms and sanitary facilities prompted the Lower Saxony state parliament in 1955 to apply for the construction of the Lower Saxony home school. In 1958 the school was reclassified for high school graduates. The current school premises were occupied in 1960. In 1981 the name was changed to "Gymnasium am Bötschenberg". 1982 saw the takeover of the grammar school at Bötschenberg by the district of Helmstedt, to which the school administration was also transferred from the state of Lower Saxony . The boarding school was closed and the school continued as an upper level. The head of department in charge threatened to close the school in 1983 because the number of students was falling. The school's first homepage went online in 2000. A parents' initiative that advocates the further development of the school in the Helmstedt district was founded in 2003. In 2004, the school was expanded to include grades 5 and 6 (voluntary self-restriction on two-movement classes). In 2005, the district council decided to limit the number to four passages in class 11 with an annual review.
