The grammar school in the city of Kerpen is a grammar school and a European school in the form of a half-day and full-day school in Kerpen , North Rhine-Westphalia , founded in 1968. Since 2001, the grammar school has been officially named European school . 176 teachers teach 2249 students. The high school in the city of Kerpen was the largest school in Germany in 2008.

Furnishing

The school has an auditorium , cafeteria , cafeteria , two triple sports halls , a library with over 33,000 books and CD-ROMs , rehearsal rooms in the basement, various playgrounds and a swimming pool.

Bilingual classes

A special feature of the Kerpen high school is the bilingual teaching . The bilingual German-English train has been offered since the 1995/1996 school year . The school subject Geography is from the seventh grade, policy from the eighth and history taught from the ninth grade in English. Another special feature is that some subjects are offered as advanced courses that can only be made a focus at very few schools in North Rhine-Westphalia: advanced courses in nutrition and social sciences. In addition to English lessons in the upper level, pupils can complete further training to become foreign language correspondents (see Further training in foreign language correspondence ).

Further education in foreign language correspondence

In the differentiated upper level (G9: grades 11–13; G8: 10–12) the students have the opportunity to prepare for the further training examination of certified foreign language correspondent of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in Cologne . The pupils who successfully pass this advanced training test thus acquire an additional professional qualification in addition to the Abitur . To obtain the examination requirements, the course Business English, English as a high-level subject, a (basic or high-level) course in social sciences (focus on economics ) and a recognized typing course, which is completed through the Bergheim Adult Education Center, include the course in Business English .

Working groups

At the grammar school there are many working groups (AG) that take place on two days (Mondays and Thursdays) a week. The working groups on Mondays take place from 2:35 p.m. to 4:05 p.m. and those on Thursdays from 1:50 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. In the second half of the 2018/2019 school year, the number of working groups was 14 on Monday and the number on Thursday 22.

MINT profile

The high school in the city of Kerpen has been certified as a MINT- friendly school since 2013 and has been a member of the MINT-EC school network since 2019 . This gives students the opportunity to acquire the MINT-EC certificate and take part in MINT-EC camps.
