Häger is a district of Werther in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Gütersloh . The predominantly rural area is in the northeast of the city of Werther. It is named after the old German word Hag , Häger means "belonging to the free Hagen". Besides the core town of Werther, Häger is the only district that has significant industry. The largest employer in town is a furniture manufacturer.

history

In the course of the implementation of the law on the reorganization of the communities and districts of the reorganization area Bielefeld ( Bielefeld Law ) of October 24, 1972 with effect from January 1, 1973 from the Werther office to the new town of Werther. Some parcels of land were awarded to the city of Bielefeld . Before that, in 1971, as part of the planning for a regional airport, some parcels of land had been attached to the city of Bielefeld. In 1982, as part of a change of area, the reorganization of around 20 hectares of parts of the nail wood from the city of Bielefeld to Häger and thus to the city of Werther (Westphalia) became effective.

Settlement history

While the other districts of Werther already Ravensberger Urbar of 1556 their specific precursor farming communities had, there was not the Hägeraner structure then. What later became Häger, lay between the farmers and individual farms and called itself Nienhagen because it was younger and did not belong to the Urhagen family. Nevertheless, a small settlement structure of the lowest centrality level with a windmill, inn, trader and later commercial operations, for example in flax processing and later in cigar production, formed . As a result of these settlements, a school was founded between the farmers of Lenzinghausen , Rotenhagen and Schröttinghausen. The area where it originated was called Bleeke, and so there was the Bleeker School. The place was also called Bleeke or Auf der Bleeke ( i.e. Auf der Bleiche ). Häger as a place name only prevailed between 1930 and 1950.

While the place was only a district until after the Second World War , it was settled in several steps - initially based on the growth of industry - in the sense of localization. First of all, in the 1950s, a settlement was built in the immediate vicinity of a furniture manufacturer; in the early 1970s, further residential areas were created as part of the urban exodus . Settling these areas roughly doubled the village's population. Gaps in the local area have been closed since the late 1990s .

Due to this development, Häger has a settlement but no actual town center , for example the church is located on the outskirts of the closed town.

In 2013 the place lost its second largest employer with the bankruptcy of Oro Druck GmbH.

Club life and village community

Häger has a very active club life. This contributes to the fact that joint events are organized and that a communal area between the church and the community center has been transformed into an attractive village meeting point. In this communal area there are various play equipment, a boules court and a book house.

Heimatverein Häger eV

The Heimatverein Häger was founded in 1968 and is committed to a village community that thrives on social contacts. A boules court was built in 2006 and has been used intensively ever since. Since 2006, a boules tournament has been held every year in the second half of the summer and is very popular. In 2012, a small bookhouse was built from historical building material from a kot that was about to be demolished. The book house is used for the simple exchange of books. Everyone can take books there and of course also put books there. In 2013 this commitment was rewarded by the network neighbors with the award 'Bundessieger' in the competition 'Most beautiful street in Germany'. The prize money of € 5,000 was used for various projects in Häger.

Village store Häger eV

Since 2016 there has also been a small village shop in Häger that sells everything for daily needs. The adjoining small café has developed into a social meeting place in the village. Since a village shop of this size cannot be run commercially in such a small place, a large amount of volunteer work is required. The association Dorfladen Häger eV was founded for this purpose.

Others

The Spenger Mühlenbach rises in the area of Häger , and the Warmenau flows through the district.
